Changzhi YU& Wenwei Tan
Artist Statement
The artistic duo of Yu Changzhi and Tan Wenwei explores the possibility of future art from the interdisciplinary perspective of art practice and philosophy. We seek mobility, collapse, and reconciliation of natural experience and historic experience in our practice, our tactile and visual practice. We try to take forms that are heavily loaded with historical significance with lightsome manners. It is our hope that our exploration and invention in materiality would create an aura that will salvage us from the myth of painting as an innocent vehicle.
Yu Changzhi(b.1993) BA Art History, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. MA Philosophy, Sun Yet-san University. MA Jewish Study, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She lives and works in Jindezhen and Guangzhou.
Tan Wenwei(b.1989) BA Art History, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. MA Art History, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. Studied at Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London. He lives and works in Jindezhen and Guanghzou
Changzhi and Wenwei have been an artist duo since 2023 and are based in Jingdezhen and Guangzhou, China.
